"A Mother's Report Card"
by Nancy Sebastian Meyer
“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Teaching Spiritually Single Moms classes over the past few years, I usually end a course with a specially prepared report card for each mom. On the paper are lines for each of the truths we have studied together and a corresponding space for a grade. Before I hand them out, I read the list aloud.
Inevitably, the more I read, the more uncomfortable the women become. They know they are failing in some areas to measure up to what God asks of us—especially young believers who have just begun to look at things from God’s point of view.
Then, I hand out each report card to the woman whose name is written at the top—and she gasps. Down the right-hand side of the sheet, across from each item, is a bold A+. That’s right, beside every item, for every woman, a perfect grade. And across the whole paper is a bold, red signature: “Jesus.” She gets it. In Christ, she is an A+ Mom, whether she feels like it or not.
You, too, are an A+ Mom or an A+ Dad or an A+ Friend…whether you feel like it or not. Why? Simply because: “the One who calls you is faithful and He will do it” in and through you, if you are willing to trust and obey as you walk with Him. This great hope is available to anyone who believes. Let us be grateful and live our lives to represent the report card we will one day receive in Heaven.
