Will Smith states “Divorce is not an option” which begs the question: How do you make marriage work?

Chicago, IL - 6/3/08 — In news headlines, Will Smith’s pronouncement to Ellen DeGeneres captured national attention. Smith states: “...you absolutely get to the point you're done and the only thing that keeps you continuing is there are no other options...That's a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I--we've just removed the other options. We're like, 'Listen, we're gonna be together one way or another, so we may as well be happy.'" How do you do that? How do disgruntled, disappointed, discouraged spouses make a marriage work?

Nancy Sebastian Meyer, author of Beyond Expectations: Finding Joy In Your Marriage, is a relationship repair expert. Celebrating twenty-four years of marriage to Rich, she knows the ups and downs of a difficult relationship, how to survive it and learn to thrive. Meyer is proof-positive that marital differences don’t have to spell disaster. As a preface to Beyond Expectations, her husband writes:

“…While contending with the obstacles and celebrating the triumphs within our relationship, Nancy has forged and proven principles for being a loving wife. She has energetically conveyed these to women individually and in groups and has more recently developed this book in order to reach you. The principles presented in these pages can help marriages. Our relationship is proof of it.”

Meyer’s second book, Talk Easy, Listen Hard: Real Communication for Two Really Different People, offers a practical look at one of the basic problem issues of marriage. She explains, “Most people agree that sex, money and communication are at the root of most divorces. But, hey, you have to communicate about sex and money—so, in my mind, communication is the number one issue that drives people apart.” A Certified Personality Trainer, Meyer teaches the reader to identify, understand and learn to work with the unique strengths and weaknesses hard-wired within each partner. Meyer says, “Finding joy is a matter of choosing to live with the ‘good list’ and only, when absolutely necessary, dealing with negative issues. The key is quickly and effectively getting those things behind you, so you can get back to the good stuff.”

When asked about the rising US divorce rate, Meyer passionately agrees with Will Smith, “Divorce can’t be an option—don’t give yourself a loophole through which to escape. You’ve got to commit to a lifetime together to experience the full benefit of years of growth and effort that result in a rich and beautiful, time-tested love. Rich and I want to follow my parents’ example of over sixty years of marriage together!”

Meyer is a national Christian women’s speaker, author, and recording artist. Her husband, a pastor-turned-agnostic, encourages her to share their story of hope “so women will stick in difficult marriages and keep families together.” More information on her ministry can be found at www.nancysebastianmeyer.com.

PRAISE FOR NANCY AND HER BOOKS:

“Nancy has a deep passion for delivering a message of hope, truth and love. Open your heart and mind to what she will share and it will change your life.”
— Babbie Mason, Singer, Songwriter, Talk-Show Host, and Author

“As a fellow author, I read many books by people who have great marriages who try to speak to those who are struggling with a difficult marriage. My friend was going through a tough time and I picked up Beyond Expectations to read before giving it to her. I knew within a few pages that this was no ordinary book. It was the journey of a woman who had been there -- is still there in some aspects -- and who counseled with the wisdom that only comes through experience. She offers hope through her own journey, but also offers practical counsel and applicable steps. I will recommend this book to any of my friends who are going through a tough patch in their marriage and who are trying to reclaim the joy they once experienced. This is a must-have book."
—T. Suzanne Eller, Author of The Woman I Am Becoming: Embracing the Chase for Identity, Faith, and Destiny

“Talk Easy, Listen Hard is a valid approach to both biblical and psychological truths. Nancy Sebastian Meyer identifies and unwraps three facets of every individual: personality, thought continuums, and love languages. She makes these concepts simple to understand and applicable for every couple. Through the easy-to-grasp truths in this small book, she empowers men and women to learn how to effectively communicate—and thus keep love alive in relationships today."
—Gary Chapman, Best-selling Author of The Five Love Languages

"Marriage and parenting are difficult enough, but throw in a spouse who doesn't agree with your faith--well, only God can redeem that situation, which is exactly the hope Nancy Sebastian Meyer offers in Spiritually Single Moms. Nancy's honesty and transparency and the tough lessons learned are gifts from Him to the rest of us."
—Nancy Kennedy, Author of When He Doesn't Believe

“Neil and I talked afterwards and he was like ‘Jess, make a list of our “A” list interviewees and put Nancy on there.’ We had a great time with you yesterday. There is a difference between an expert, and an expert that has a true, noble, courageous and loving heart for the people. You exude the latter definition and the listeners loved it, as did we."
—Jesse Pohle, Producer, Life-FM  WDCX 99.5FM

“For years I’ve felt so alone in an unhappy marriage, but I can’t talk about my situation without incriminating my husband. Then I read Nancy’s book, Beyond Expectations, and found a kindred spirit and renewed hope and joy in God’s truth. Very few people know about my intense pain. My husband’s family has no idea. Our friends would be shocked. I tell you this because things are not always as they appear. My story could belong to your neighbor, your sister or your daughter. We need to know we are not alone. Through Nancy’s teaching, many women like myself are finding the hope to hold on and experience incredible peace, joy and blessing."
—Reader

“Nancy’s speaking is packed with valuable wisdom and practical applications that have drawn me into a renewed and refreshed relationship with my husband.  Her transparency into her own struggles allows me to feel safe and comfortable."
