"A Mother's Report Card"
by Nancy Sebastian Meyer

“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

Teaching Spiritually Single Moms classes over the past few years, I usually end a course with a specially prepared report card for each mom. On the paper are lines for each of the truths we have studied together and a corresponding space for a grade. Before I hand them out, I read the list aloud.
Inevitably, the more I read, the more uncomfortable the women become. They know they are failing in some areas to measure up to what God asks of us—especially young believers who have just begun to look at things from...

Giving God Glory:

Dear Nancy,

What is so tough for me is when my girls want to follow their dad in not going to church and in not making good choices. Some days I feel so alone in my own family. It can be real tough. It is somehow comforting to know that I am not alone in it all, that there are other women out there like you who understand, pray, care and support each other. Thank you so much for sharing. – LL

A Visit with Dr. Dobson

Many of you have asked, “So what was it like to be interviewed by Dr. Dobson?”
After multiple emails, phone calls, and faxes, I finally flew to Colorado Springs last October to record an interview with Dr. James Dobson on my book, Spiritually Single Moms. An ordinary Monday in October became a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  (Click here to see photo!)

Spiritually Single Moms by Nancy Sebastian Meyer As the radio program producer ushered me into the inner offices at Focus on the Family, I remember deliberately tuning out the anxiety and asking God to give me a keen mind to answer questions according to His truth. We chatted for several minutes seated comfortably in couches to one side of Dr. Dobson’s office and then walked through back passageways to arrive at the interview set.

Behind a glass wall sat rows of visitors who had come to observe the taping. Later I would find out that one woman felt especially blessed to hear this interview because she had been praying that Focus would air a program about spiritually-divided families—and this was the only day her family could visit Focus and observe an interview taping!

The recorded interview was a series of questions, answers, and discussion between Dr. Dobson, myself, and John Fuller, the co-host. Appropriate responses came from listening carefully and praying hard! And the time seemed to fly by. All too soon I heard Dr. Dobson wrapping up—but then he talked about tuning in tomorrow for more on spiritually-divided families. I suddenly realized we were recording a two-day interview. Wow!

Check your local Christian radio station for March 24 and 25 program times (in Lancaster PA, tune in to WDAC FM94.5 at 1AM, 9AM or 8:30PM) or log onto www.family.org to listen that day.

Praise God with me for a wonderful experience, an awesome program team at Focus, and the restorative work He is doing in the hearts and lives of spiritually single moms and others throughout the world—to His Glory!

Still amazed,
Nancy

Speaking Encouragement
to Spiritually Single Moms

Speak E-Z Tips & Ideas

How can you help a spiritually single mom cope? What can you say to her that will make a difference in her life? Here are ten truths from God’s Word you can speak into the life of a spiritually single woman that will enlighten her mind and encourage her heart.

  1. Keep focused on God - by keeping your mind fixed on truth from God’s Word; Romans 12:2
  2. Respect your husband’s free will - stop trying to change him, and trust God to enliven his heart toward Him; 1 Peter 3:1-2
  3. Love your...[read more]

Why did God make mothers?
Here are three little children’s responses:

  1. Mostly to clean the house.
  2. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
  3. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

If you've heard of a funny, clean joke, send it to us.

Easter Question:

On the morning of Jesus’ resurrection, the angel by empty tomb asked the women, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” This Easter I ask myself, “Am I spending enough time with the living God on His terms, before I enter the world each day?”

Ask Nancy...

Question:  Just who is a “spiritually single mom”?

Answer: Spiritually single women come to church by themselves while Dad is at home, on the golf course, or perhaps in a different church. Or, he might be sitting beside her in the pew—but she knows he’s checked out (even if the rest of the church doesn’t). These women are lonely and weary—and they can’t share their pain because they won’t compromise reputation or relationship.
